THERMOS PARTNERS WITH GREATER CHICAGO FOOD DEPOSITORY TO PROVIDE 15,000 MEALS TO COMMUNITY
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (May 6, 2020)– Thermos L.L.C. has committed to providing 15,000 meals to families in the Greater Chicago area through a $5,000 donation to the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Thermos, headquartered in Schaumburg, IL, a suburb of Chicago, has been an American leader in food and beverage storage solutions for over a century, making the fit between the two organizations to help fight hunger a natural one.
The initiative comes as part of Thermos’ community-based emergency response to COVID-19, at a time when the nation’s food programs are experiencing unprecedented demand. "We at Thermos feel a deep responsibility to do our part to help address this crisis in our community. With millions of Americans turning to food programs, including many for the first time, we understand the urgent need to help families and individuals get the food they need to stay healthy," said Julie Henricks, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Thermos L.L.C. "We hope that through this donation, we can provide some relief during this time.”
“The Greater Chicago Food Depository thanks Thermos for their support during this challenging time,” said Audri Coffer, cause marketing and engagement manager at the Food Depository. “COVID-19 has dramatically increased the need for food. We’re continuing to escalate our response to ensure no one goes hungry during this time. The generosity of Thermos will help greatly.”
Why is food a concern during COVID 19?
- The growing coronavirus pandemic has resulted in a significant rise in demand from the charitable food system in America, as the nation faces rising unemployment, school closures and rising poverty due to quarantine and stay-at-home orders.
- Food supplies across the world will be “massively disrupted” by the coronavirus, and without action, the number of people suffering chronic hunger could double.
The Greater Chicago Food Depository’s impact touches communities throughout Cook County. Thanks to staff, volunteers, and supporters of the Food Depository, the local community can depend on food and hope.
